Our response to the Government's equal civil marriage consultation

At our last meeting, we responded to the Government's consultation on equal civil marriage. We told them that:
  • All couples, regardless of their gender, should be allowed to have a civil marriage ceremony
  • We would have civil marriage ceremonies if we were allowed
  • Religious marriage should be opened up to same-sex couples
  • Civil partnerships should still be available once civil marriage is brought in for same-sex couples
  • Civil partnerships should be be opened up to opposite-sex couples
  • There should be no time limit on converting a civil partnership into a marriage
  • We should be able to have a civil ceremony if we decide to convert a civil partnership into a marriage
We've responded as a group, but we urge you all to read the consultation and respond individually too, as this gives the Government a better picture of what lesbian, gay, bi and trans people really want.

In addition to responding to the Government, you can sign the Coalition for Equal Marriage's petition, to show that you support the right of two people in love to get married, regardless of gender.
