Mental Illness Awareness Week

LGBT people have a much higher risk of experiencing suicidal feelings, self-harm. drug or alcohol misuse, and mental health problems such as depression and anxiety (Mind, 2013).

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week with World Mental Health Day taking place on Thursday 10 October. On this day, Kingston Council, in partnership with Mind in Kingston, are encouraging us all to high five someone at 11:05 am and say 'Happy World Mental Health Day', to celebrate and raise awareness of mental health together.

To mark the awareness week, Kingston will be holding two events:

  • Mental health anti-stigma campaign and Mind information stall - Thursday 10 October, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm - Outside the Bentall Centre, Clarence Street, Kingston upon Thames
  • Art and Music Festival for Mind - Saturday 12 October, 1:00 - 5:00 pm - All Saints Church, Kingston Town Centre, KT1 1JP
