The 50+ Group is a social and peer support group for LGBTQ+ people aged 50 and above who live, work or socialise in Kingston-upon-Thames. Membership is free of charge.

It was formed in 2019 and held its Inaugural Meeting in September that year. It currently has 20 members.

What we do

In the past, we have held regular meetings at the Kingston Quaker Centre with sessions on a range of topics with some visiting speakers. In addition, we went on trips to a concert, a play, and the Buddhapadipa Buddhist Temple in Wimbledon. ‘We meet from time to time for Sunday pub lunches, and these have been very popular. In LGBT+ History Month 2020 we went on a guided tour of Oscar Wilde’s London and had a guided LGBTQ+-themed tour of the Victoria and Albert Museum. More recently, many of us participated in a LGBTQ+ tour of Hampton Court Palace.

The pandemic unfortunately compelled us to suspend our ‘physical’ activities, although many 50+ members took part in the Forum’s online activities including Yoga sessions and the weekly quiz. Several members also wrote blogs on our website (which can be read here) and took part in an online panel discussion (for more information see this blog post:  LGBT+ History Month – February 2022 – Kingston LGBT Forum)

We are now very pleased to be ready to resume our activities and welcome any local LGBTQ+ people aged 50 or over to join the group.
